ThunderSeis Experiment on the Gaisberg (Salzburg)

30.10.2020

In october 2020, researchers from our department carried through the first phase of the Gaisberg ThunderSeis experiment in the Salzburg area.

They placed more than a hundred seismic and infrasound sensors on the Gaisberg mountain, in the hope to capture several lightning strikes that hit the tower of the Lightning Research Center, at the top of the mountain. This will allow better insight into the physical effects that occur during lightning and thunder. The field trip was also covered in the local news. (Florian Fuchs, Beitrag in ORF Salzburg heute „Donner-Forschungsprojekt Gaisberg“ vom 24.10.2020). Further information here: https://salzburg.orf.at/stories/3072950/
