Seismologists at work

07.09.2016

How does a temporary seismic station look like? The Austrian science magazine "profil Wissen" answered this question in the June 2016 volume, showing two seismologists of our department at work, Götz Bokelmann and Florian Fuchs - in the basement of the Ebreichsdorf castle, during maintenance of an AlpArray station.

This seismic station is part of a temporary network currently covering the entire Alpine area and recording earthquaks from all over the world. In the context of the "AlpArray Austria" project and with the help of such stations, researchers at our department explore the interior of the Alps, their development and the seismic hazard.

Thank you very much to Jochen Stadler and Reiner Riedler for the magnificent photograph.
