In a new study, Michael Mayer and his colleagues investigated the ability of state-of-the-art coupled climate models to replicate observed energy exchanges between ocean and atmosphere in association with El Niño - Southern Oscillation (ENSO). The quality of these simulations is important as the models are also employed to project changes in ENSO characteristics (e.g., frequency and strength) with climate change.
Substantial attention has been drawn to the study by a recent article in The Guardian.
