New article on thermally-driven slope flows

30.12.2014

A new publication by Dino Zardi from the University of Trento and Stefano Serafin from the Group of Theoretical Meteorology at IMGW has been published online.

The article "An analytic solution for time-periodic thermally-driven slope flows" has been published in "Notes and Correspondence" of the Quarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society and presents an analytical approach to the description of thermally-driven slope flows. Slope flows represent an important category of airflow in mountainous terrain; knowledge of their dynamics is essential to further our understanding of (turbulent) exchange processes in the atmosperic boundary layer over complex terrain.
In future studies, thermally-driven flows will be modelled with high-performance computer simulations in order to extend predictions by analytical solutions to varying thermal forcings and real-world topography.
