Earthquake shakes Vienna

27.04.2016

On Monday, 25th of April 2016 an earthquake of Magnitude 4.2 occurred near Alland (Lower Austria). Located only 22 km from Vienna, its shaking was well recognized by the population in and around Vienna.

The earthquake was also clearly registered by the 30 AlpArray seismic stations operated by the Department of Meteorology and Geophysics of the University of Vienna in Austria and Slovakia. Thanks to the dense instrumentation it will now be possible to locate the earthquake more precisely and to determine the focal mechanism.
