The aim of the course is to give participants an in-depth look into verification technologies applied by the CTBTO to detect nuclear explosions and verify compliance with the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty, where geophysics and meteorology play an important role to fulfill that task.
Participants include scientists from all over the world working in various fields, as well as political and diplomatic personnel.
The course comprises numerous lectures as well as visits to some of the CTBTO's facilities. This year's course was especially interesting as it featured some special lectures and panels by internationally-renowned guest experts like for example Prof. Paul Richards, Ambassador Linton Brooks and Dr. Nikolai Sokov, the last two of which played an important role in the negotiations of the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START).
