Congratulations to Dr. Ehsan Qorbani!

20.01.2016

On Friday, 15.01.2016, the now-Dr. Ehsan Qorbani successfully passed his PhD defense on "Upper Mantle Anisotropy under the Eastern Alps and Pannonia Basin“ under the supervision of Prof. Götz Bokelmann. In addition, the committee consisted of Prof. Mark Handy from the Freie Universität, Berlin, Prof. Georg Rümpker from the Goethe Universität Frankfurt, and ao.Prof. Bruno Meurers as head of the committee. His work, already published in 3 research papers (and one more to go), focused on seismic anisotropy measured by shear-wave splitting in the greater Alpine area in Europe.

Born in Iran, Ehsan Qorbani finished his Master in Geophysics-Seismology at the Institute for Advanced Studies in Basic Sciences (IASBS) in Zanjan in 2007. After some years of work experience in the industry, he started his PhD in Austria in 2011, and is now the first candidate graduating from the seismology group that was newly created five years ago. During his time in Vienna, Ehsan Qorbani evolved immensely on an academic and scientific level and became a highly-valued member to the research group, much appreciated by his colleagues. This was emphasized once again in the short trip that the group undertook after his defense, from Friday to Saturday to Bratislava - to celebrate Ehsan's defense there.

Congratulations Dr. Ehsan Qorbani and best wishes for your future career.
