A research team with participation of Saikiran Tharimena from the Department for Meteorology and Geophysics at the University of Vienna published the results of a large-scale experiment on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge in "Nature". The seismologists were able to show that material is actively pushing upwards from a depth of around 600 kilometers (the deeper earth mantle).
